Under 11 Div 3 vs Prahran (R7)

19 June 2019 by HRJ

It was back to the massive ground of Como Park for a second match up with Prahran. So, whilst we had their measure the first game, we knew that they would be prepared for us. We started well with a quick goal, but Prahran bounced back with a reply nearly as quickly and it looked like it was going to be a tough contest.

At this point a few of our players stepped up to take the game on. Miles had been given the task creating a contest at centre half-forward and he started getting a lot of the ball and getting other teammates involved. Domenic was holding down centre half back and was consistently rebounding the ball and letting very little through. And, Lachie was thriving out on the far wing throughout the first half managing to find lots of space and plenty of possessions. This allowed us to take a healthy lead into half-time.

In the second half we maintained this competitiveness. Jake continues to find the goals for us and along with Jaxen and Declan they were looking dangerous up forward. Seb and Jett were competing hard out on either wing, and Gavin just keeps on getting better with each game. It was the contribution of the whole team that was our strength throughout this game.

However, the highlight from the day for me came from Jaxen. He was on the bench in the last quarter and asked if he could go back on into the forward line to give him the chance to kick a personal best of four goals. When he got back on, he picked up a loose ball in the middle of the ground and took off bouncing 3 or 4 times into the forward line. But, when within range instead off slotting a personal record 4th goal for the game he chose to do something that makes good teams great and handballed over the top of an opponent to a teammate in the clear. Amazing, selfless teamwork.
