Under 11 Div 6 vs St Paul’s McKinnon (R7)

18 June 2019 by HRJ

On a beautiful Sunday morning at the home of football (Boss James Oval) we took on St Paul’s McKinnon JFC.

Tom H ad Seb G were our captains, who won the toss and kicked to the scoring end for the day. The team goal for the day was EFFORT and the boys showed plenty in the first quarter, with Fletcher kicking the first goal after a free kick was awarded.

In the second quarter, St Paul’s started to find space and went deep into attack on numerous occasions. Theeran was marvelous on the last line, Oliver was a tackling machine and Baxter cut off plenty of opportunities. Seb and Dan Storey provided run along the wings and Harry was doing what he does best, getting the ball in traffic and providing options to fellow players.

In the third quarter, the game lifted as the scores remained within a kick. Campbell was providing an option up forward and kicked a lovely goal. Jade and Tom H moved into the midfield with great success providing plenty of attacking and defensive displays. In defense Dan S was taking some telling marks and Raph’s move into the ruck provided first options to our running midfield

In the final quarter, unfortunately we struggled to get the ball into our forward which resulted in St Paul’s hanging on for a 1-point victory.

Having only one player on the bench on such a large oval may have been a deciding factor in the match result. The boys were exhausted at the finished and showed tremendous effort in fighting out the game. If we had one more minute, maybe we could have pulled off a deserved win.

I’m a firm believer that we learn more from a loss than a win and I’m sure that our next win isn’t far away. Well done all on a fantastic performance. It was truly a TEAM EFFORT!!!
