Hope you all enjoyed the two week break and spent it enjoying the family life without chilly Sunday mornings!
Last time we came up against Brighton, it was a game where we saw the barometer of the competition first hand. It was our heaviest loss for the year, 13 or 14 goals, on the big Brighton beach ground.
Sunday was our chance to show the competition that we’d improved and that all teams are susceptible to pressure and teamwork over the whole ground. It was Ryan P’s turn to run through the banner for 50 games and be the leader of the team for the match. Cheeky photo with the proud coach/father in front of the banner was warranted.
Thanks to Jake Seddon, Zac McKenna and Matt Garlich for coming into the team. All boys acquitted themselves brilliantly and they had a great win, after our game, back in their own team.
It was a game of 2 halves. Every single one of the boys had an influence on the improvement and development we showed in the game. Over the 3 sections of the ground we had constant winners. The forwards were great in keeping the ball in our forward half when it entered. Jack W, Leo, Mitch G, Geordie and Freddie had moments when the hard work was so close to paying off. Harry has shown versatility at both ends of the ground and kicked a great goal in the 2nd term.
The backs never shied away from a competitive contest all day. Mikey was solid, Mitch R when he got going was great. Supported by James H, James P and Nate we kept the oppositions chance to score at a minimum. 5 goals, 5 behinds for whole game. Outstanding effort.Ollie spent time at both ends and it was good to have Matty B back in the team.
At half time I could really sense that the boys had bought into the belief and excitement on the sidelines, parents and coaches alike. The praise and pump up was thoroughly deserved and we had a sniff for the entire game. We equalled our intensity of the first half for more reward. Ryan, Huddy, Ben W and Ben H ran themselves ragged all day and were a great midfield unit. The 2nd half was a tie. We’d held the top team to our score after Ben W kicked truly.
So we ended up going down by 3 goals. What an effort and turn around from the earlier meeting! The other clubs in the league would have read the result on the website and been impressed.
Our challenge for the next 5 games…bring that performance every Sunday! If we do, our season will go that little bit longer into the finals. Once we achieve that little milestone, who knows what can happen.
Another tough one this week against St Bedes. An almost full side hopefully.
Super proud, super happy, super excited.
Go Hampton Rovers – best mates!
Cheers
