An early morning Mother’s Day away match had us travelling to Mt Waverley to face Ashwood Junior FC. After a lock down game the week before, the players were instructed and ready to play an expansive game style.
The first quarter commenced with Magnus providing multiple opportunities to our midfield which resulted in an early lead at quarter time by 15 points. The most pleasing aspect of this quarter was how free flowing our game style was. Harry was gaining vital possessions around the packs and Chris W was providing a key focal point at Centre Half Forward.
The second & third quarters, Ashwood was using a similar game style which caused a few issues as our players stopped tackling and chasing, allowing Ashwood to move the ball into the forward line and scoring. Tristan was magnificent in becoming our back stop in defence and was well supported by Tom & Baxter who continued to back themselves and take the game on. Jade at Centre Half Back was reading the play superbly taking mark after mark which allowed us to have a comfortable lead going into the final quarter.
In the final term we got back to playing our game style for this week with Brad breaking lines and Sonny showing plenty of forward pressure. The only disappointing skill of the final term was our accuracy in front of goals, which totalled nine behinds for the game.
It was a fantastic experience in the change rooms after the match for the boys to celebrate the first win of 2019 by singing the club song with the Mothers who joined our circle.
