Difficult start to the game with losing the toss and kicking against the wind. After 10 minutes, we were five goals down and struggling to get our hands on the ball as Waverley dominated play. Following this point on, the game was very even.
We started to get our running game going late in the first quarter, with Harry O in everything which stopped the scoring blowing out. Oliver R was provided with a task of reducing the scoring and to provide rebound from the last line of defence, which he did superbly.
In the second quarter with the wind, we held our positions well and outscored Waverley with better ball movement with Fletcher O and Dan Storey getting plenty of ball. Seb G became our first goal scorer just before halftime.
The third quarter was our best quarter for the game. Against the wind, our team goals (TACKLE / MOVE BALL FORWARD & YELL OUT YOUR NAME) was achieved by all players, especially down back with Harvey A being a tackling machine and Baxter M intercepting and providing plenty of run and carry.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t close the gap in the last term, however Jade D and Jack S didn’t stop collecting touches and getting to most contest. Seb G finished off a quality game with another goal. All other players played a part in providing a solid team effort.
After only having one training session to date with the boys, it was very encouraging how they listened and focused on the team’s goals for the final three quarters.
