Off to another away game against one of our big rivals, St Bedes. We’ve had some amazing games against these guys over the last 5 years. The teams have been relatively unchanged in that time so it’s great to see them compete against one another. The weather was a better winter’s morning than last week. Huddy was our captain for the day and he also earned the opposition award for our best player.
I don’t know about you guys, but these close games are starting to affect my health. Haha. Another game less than a kick – wowee!
We got off to an ok start. I still think that when we dominate a game for full four quarters we’ll always be hard to beat.
The first half was when we had the upper hand. Harry W kicked us off with a great goal. Max L dominated the first half and it was perfect conditions for Mitch R and Huddy J to showcase their aerial skills. Oscar M and James H had great 2nd terms. Harry B got bowled over for just being Harry and got a 25m penalty for a certain goal. Charlton T was attacking everything and kicked an important goal. He won’t be beaten throwing himself at the contest. Freddie S was composed in close and always seems to get the clearances out of tight spaces. I asked for the boys to at least get a hand up if they couldn’t mark and Harry G was intercepting and spoiling any contest he faced.
At the main change we seemingly were in control. The St Bedes team are very well drilled and we knew they’d come at us.
Ryan P spoiled, Zac M tackled and Mikey P continued his brilliant backline craft from last week. Ollie S does not know how big some of the guys are that he continuously wrestled to the ground. Ollie E was injured and a bit sore yet he still pushed on to match the opposition and help Matty B and Sandro repel St Bedes attacks. Ben W got himself a ripper goal to give us some breathing space. Giddy Z was put at CHF to give us a running tall target. Wes S was getting by himself a lot. It will click for him soon and the ball will land in his hands rather than bounce away. We lost the lead in the last quarter but none of the backs dropped their heads and Jake S caused some important stoppages. Big Keegan M attacked the ball well all day and as he turned a kicked truly there was about 1 min 30 left on the clock. We held on in another epic.
East Brighton this week. They got the better of us earlier in the season. I think we’ll be better this time around. Let’s hope we grace the turf of Castlefield.
Go Hampton Rovers – best mates.
Cheers
Wayno
