Footy’s Back!
In 2018 we have a new look team and our home ground at Castlefield is getting its own new look being midway through a facilities upgrade, it certainly makes for a close knit group.
It is a new year and the new look team demonstrated improvement was in the air in a big way!
Ryan and Max joined us for the day from U11 demonstrating love of the game & their brilliant sportsmanship which ensured both teams had 18 players to take the field. Max kicked the first goal for the Rovers season which was a just reward! It was great to see the boys swap team jumpers each quarter and try to out play each other.
We had plenty of firsts on Sunday with Miles & Marco our captains for the day joining the team and showcasing their fantastic game reading ability and ball winning skills. Along with first time Rovers players Angus Z who played a role as a key forward target & Riley who gave us great run off the flanks and showed how he loves to win a contest for his team.
Our midfield worked tirelessly all day, all the boys gave everything they had for both their attacking and defensive team mates.
Joe, Fletch & Josh C picked up exactly where they left off last year i.e. in RELENTLESS BALL WINNING AWESOME form! They were boosted by some new mid-field faces being Harry G who potentially played his best game in the gold & the green, along with Taro and Camdyn who both played a sensational first game for the Rovers. Angus G played ruck in the last quarter after hitting the scoreboard with a major earlier & demonstrating his improved agility and commitment to win the ball. The Jonty McKimm wing was re-opened for business in 2018 and our “man in the band” owned the turf particularly in the first half. Even in the wet Josh H demonstrated he is a POWER forward for all conditions and commanded his space, Tom had his footy smarts and silky skills on show down from both kick 2 majors along with Joe.
It was not glamorous work particularly in the conditions but Zain, Darcy & Refe showed their selfless game style along with an improved ability to win a contest & go with second efforts to restrict the opposition forwards like Boer constrictors clearly evident when their opposition struggled for a touch & the scoreboard!
A brilliant first round of sensational team oriented rovers footy.
The portable SHOOK as the boys sung the song with gusto!
Go Rovers!
