Under 12 Girls Div 1 vs East Brighton Vampires (R15)

13 August 2018 by HRJ

It was a cold and early start at Castlefield and the Vampires, standing bold in red, stood in the way of us making the finals. But we were fired up from the get-go.

Our girls barreled in with a bunch of points and two goals in the first quarter. Wade was kept on his flag-waving toes with goals from Lottie and Emily and a ‘post point’ from Daisy. Lottie snapped another point too, following up on her back-in-town form from last week. Steffi took a ripper mark that Penny J only heard about, although she proudly saw the one later in the match.

Coach Callum was pleased with the girls’ endeavor. Leigh noted Maddie’s good work tapping the ball to keep it in play. “Take your time” was the message going into the second quarter for all the girls.

Now, a few things to say about shorts this week. Suey assures me that Mika wasn’t running short-less, despite looking like she was, and Pete was wearing long pants!! It must have been cold to bypass the shorts this morning Pete?

Nothing short of brilliant from our girls though (see what I did there?). Another ‘point post’ from Mia K trying to take a snap at goals and plenty of clever work picking up the crumbs. Two super hero goals from Batman, one right down the i-diddle-diddle, thank you very much. Lily put her body of the line and it paid off. Elicia struck gold, clocking up a goal and a point. Caitlin snapped another. I’m sure I’ve missed a few, they were coming thick and fast, and clearly the Vamps didn’t stand a chance.

Those reds played a tough, tackling game but they were no match for us. Lizzie dazzled them with her strength and some backwards kicking, every little thing she’s learnt from her Dad coming true. Aliah was silky smooth all game. Daisy, ducking and weaving, had them dazed and confused.

And towards the end, a smooth kick from Daisy had Mika strike a magnificent goal; champagne football right there, ladies. 56 to 0.

Best on ground to Aliah, an athletic performer who is yet to realise how good she is. Batman awarded for her super hero skills. Most determined award to our smallest player, Elicia, who certainly punches above her weight. An award for Lizzie too, for her patience and hard tackling.

Bring on the finals!!! Can’t wait.
