Under 12 Girls Green vs Mordi Brae (R7)

28 May 2018 by HRJ

What a gorgeous day for a game of footy and playing at home had a number of family and friends out to support the girls. The girls started off strong and the ball spent a lot of time in the midfield and our forward line which was very exciting. There was great pressure and running by Georgia early and Charlie and Stella contributed to getting the ball to our forwards. Tamara did a brilliant tackle and we all appreciated her little squeal when she was given a free. An effective handpass by Tiani and Sachi did a great tackle. In defence, the girl’s pressure was strong.

The ball spent a lot of time in our forward line and they were so close to scoring. Rob praised them for a solid effort and to keep working hard, especially when the ball gets into our forward line. Sienna was injured in the first quarter and unfortunately didn’t return to the field, we are all hoping you are back next week.

In the second quarter, the girls started well again with a great tap out by Ruby T to Phoebe who moved the ball into our forward. There was also good defence by Jasmine who managed to keep the ball from going into their forward. Agatha took a brilliant mark in the backline and nice kick to round off the play.

Georgia was able to withstand strong pressure and shrug off a tackle, recover well and kick into the midfield. Jasmyn, Lily, Georgia, and Charli worked hard to stop them in defence and Lucy, Phoebe, Ruby T and Stella tried hard in the midfield. There were a couple of nice plays where Georgia kicked to Charlie, Charlie to Stella and the same with Lucy to Phoebe.

At the end of the quarter, the girls were reminded to kick the ball wide then go towards goal. Once again, they were very close to scoring and they need to keep working hard.

Mordialloc came out strong in the third and despite a couple of early goals, the girls in defence tried very hard. There was a nice tackle by Ruby P, great kicking Agatha and Willow as always applied strong pressure with her tackling which resulted in holding the ball. Stella and Tiani were also strong with their tackling and Agatha, Ruby T and Chloe also did well in defence.

The girls agreed they needed to finish with a big last quarter and they started well. Another beautiful mark by Agatha in the back and Stella, Tamara, Ruby P and Lucy all worked hard in defence and stopped a couple of goals. Willow created a lot of excitement when she took the ball from the midfield and she ran and ran and ran. Unfortunately she was stopped by the umpire but it was definitely the play of the day! Chloe and Ruby T tackled well and Georgia and Charlie worked really well together and had some effective disposals. Phoebe also did some nice work with her tackling.

After the game, Captain Ruby T awarded Stella the Captains Award for never giving up all day which was a strong reflection of Stella’s game. Coaches Awards went to our courageous Captain Ruby T, Jasmine for a good first game back and Tamara for giving it her all and a great game. The girls worked hard all day and did some great work.

They are definitely improving and we are all really proud of their team work, attitudes and fun loving spirits!
