Under 12 Green vs Brighton Beach (R4)

9 May 2018 by HRJ

Hampton Rovers 9.9 (63) def. Brighton Beach 1.0 (6)

Rovers Under 12’s Up in lights!

This is what is all about! Providing experiences, having fun while getting them & helping your mates out.

What a great week of footy for these boys. They were provided an opportunity to play under lights at Brighton Beach and they made the very most of it.

Given the time change and 3 serious injuries (off the footy field) we needed the support of 5 of our Maroon team mates who were victims of a forfeit. The collective result was a beauty.

Fletch who has been relentless in the season & Joe who has also played his best footy were our captains for the day, we were joined by Jed, Jem, Jay, Matt & Orlando from “team Maroon” to ensure a team of 20 players.

After the success of last week our plan was all out “fast footy”. The first quarter was a very hot contest & Joe who played a super game between forward and ruck opened the account with a great first goal. Angus Z was again the “tower of power” and marked and goaled for a second Rovers major. Tom K is having a brilliant 2018 and kicked a “pure” 3rd team goal while ending up with 2 big ones for himself in the game.

Our midfield worked very hard & was electrifying as they made it first to the ball for most of the game. Jem had his determination to win a contest on full display and was fantastic with his nonstop drive and second efforts often providing booming kicks from clearances as he encouraged the other boys. When the traffic was heavy Fletch was in there bobbing in and out with numerous clearances. Josh C was also in great form for the entire match with his silky left and right side skills on show. Matt used his blistering pace at both ends of the ground getting plenty of quality touches and driving the ball forward. Taro gets better every week and was super in the contest particularly in the first half in defence. Camdyn got his “Mojo” and applied his beautiful kicking and dash from defence all game. Orlando, Marco & Jay showed us their confidence, ball reading ability and strong marking in defence forming an in penetrable wall in defence along with Darcy, Arthur and Jed who did all the team stuff for most of the game.

Jonty loves a big contest and while running flat out all game has taken a huge step as our ace winger. Not only was he getting his own ball and providing important linkage but he has added fantastic tackling and shepherding to his game (that also provided 2 goals!)

Miles was in the action at both ends of the ground with some nice team play, Riley was again a pressure forward who teamed up in sensational style with Angus G who worked hard & led all game with a goal as reward. Josh H worked extremely hard for four quarters between ruck & Centre Half forward nailing 2 strong goals. There were some fantastic dash’s and passes on display and Jay was right up with the best as he dashed out of the middle with 3 bounces and a pin point pass to result in a goal!

The lights blazed, conditions were fantastic, the atmosphere was great and the boys worked for a significant local derby result.

The change rooms at Brighton Beach have fantastic acoustics for a Rovers theme song at full volume as the team proved!

Special thanks again to all families for agreeing to move the start time to enable the game to take place.

Go Rovers!

David
