Hampton Rovers 10.6. (66) def. St Kilda City 5.2. (32)
We do love to be beside the seaside! (Even if we’re away at Wattie Watson Oval)
What a contrast to the prior week from a weather perspective! It’s great to be out with the team on a brilliant sunny Autumn day.
We lined up with our full squad of 19, Tom K who had a great game and ended up being a multiple goal scorer on the day, who with Riley showing his brilliant pace and ball reading ability both captained the team who were absolutely raring to go! Our boys knew the practice match a few weeks ago was a very tight affair and that our best team effort was going to be required.
The first half was a very tight contest and our midfield group played the game in fantastic fashion. Team work was the order of the day, It’s worth mentioning this team has a brilliant focus to look out for each other and support their mates.
Taro kicked his first ever Rovers goal to open the game in great running style! Josh Cameron opened the scorers book for the #20 in 2018, Angus G provided a great lead resulting in 6 points, Angus Z was a tower of marking strength deep in the forward line and WOWWEE Fletch was clearly unhappy not getting a major last week so he kicked 4 beauties on the day and ran from contest to contest for the entire game!
Harrison Gibbins was a clearance specialist and tackling machine who lead the way for the team whith our target of 5 tackles and 4 shepherds each for the match. Joe & Josh H each played very strong team games sharing ruck and Centre half forward to great effect.
Wattie Watson Oval is a large space for U12’s to work on and Jonty carved his tracks in the wing playing a very good second half providing linkage and dash as the team worked to the front of the contest.
Our backs were highly determined and dominated in the second half via Camdyn, Arthur, Zain & Refe who never gave an inch and stopped the momentum that St Kilda had formed going into half time.
Darcy said to me in one of the breaks “I think I’ve found my spot” & I would agree after his strong tackling & clearance work. Marco & Miles did a fantastic job handballing from the contest to create space while Anastasi provided brilliant pressure on the flanks all game.
There is no doubt the skill has risen and the pace is up.
The boys belted out the song at full volume, it was a great days play!
Go Rovers!
