Under 13 Div 2 vs Mordi Brae (R12)

30 July 2019 by HRJ

Every now and then a game comes along that defines us and strengthens us as a team.

Following on from another strong training session we were all up and about for our much anticipated round 12 home game against the ladder leaders in Mordi Brae. Our pre-game centred around more pressure and intensity in the contest and we knew we needed to bring our A game if we had any chance. The first quarter didn’t disappoint with our new look midfield going to work early led by Taj, Jasper and Gibbo with Josh H competing incredibly well in the ruck. It didn’t take long to post our first major courtesy of a nice mark and terrific goal from Luke. Our second goal for the quarter was courtesy of the highly skilled Jem who has proven he can play in a number of positions. The siren sounded for the first and we were in front for only the second time this season.

Incredibly we went on to lead the game for three and half quarters which is something our players should be really proud of. The second quarter we added another goal via Luke who was dominating in our forward line as our backline was under enormous pressure Led by Jacob who was doing an incredible job on probably the best CHF in the division supported by the always reliable Matt, Harry and Tom. The siren sounded for the second and we went into the rooms.

We came out in the second half and carried on from where we left off with Mitch showing incredible ball sense intercepting the ball, Josh C getting plenty of the ball on the wing and Jonty always dangerous and providing options at FF. A goal to highly skilful Fletcher and the siren sounded with the home side up by a point at the last.

The first half of the last quarter was played with the same ferocity as we have seen all day but as I explained to the playing group post-game that’s it is very difficult, almost impossible to play with 110% intensity for an entire game. Gus finished off his incredible game by taking three courageous contested marks in the backline. We walked off the ground with our heads held high, having given everything. Surely this is a game we will remember for some time to come, having now discovered another level of belief within the group, a steely resolve that will set us up for our final three games of the season.

Well done boys, you proved to the competition that you can take it up to the best.
