Under 13 Div 2 vs Mordi Brae (R2)

7 May 2019 by HRJ

After such an emotional away game last week it was good to be on home soil as we faced off against a very strong opponent in Mordi Brae. The theme of our pre-game address centred around long kicking, creating plenty of space and using the angles and for the most part we executed this for a lot of the game. However we didn’t factor in that Mordi Brae are a very tall side and move the ball with such efficiency that for most of the game we were either caught out of position or out of the contest.

Pretty much from the first bounce to the final siren out back six including our mids were all under enormous pressure but we never gave up fighting. To our boys credit we stuck to our game plan and every player really put in 100% and at the end of the day that’s all I or anyone can ask for. At the half-time break we were only down by three and a bit goals but in the end it was all too much and we were comfortably beaten on the day.

We will learn a lot from this game but we will move on pretty quickly. I’m incredibly proud of this group, not only on the way that they conduct themselves on the field but this is our first year of grading and we have a number of new players and we are still adjusting to the different style of play each player brings to the team. As a coach I also have much to learn and will take away a lot from the game.

We look forward to hitting the training track this week and our next opponent.

Chris Gleeson
Coach
