Under 13 Div 2 vs Mordi Brae (R7)

19 June 2019 by HRJ

With the week off and a strong training session Friday night, we were all looking forward to our round 7 away encounter with Mordi Brae. Not only did we want to prove to ourselves that we can match it with the best, for extra incentive we also had one of our favourite sons in Taj H celebrate his 100-game milestone. As the team lined up and applauded Taj running out onto the ground, we were all certainly up and about and the game got off to a flying start with both teams working hard to get their hands on the ball.

The first quarter was pretty tight with both teams playing some terrific football in beautiful conditions. The second quarter was played in similar intensity to the first as we went into the long break with only one goal separating the two teams. The opposition turned up the heat in the third and to our team’s credit we held tight and matched them with the same intensity and pressure in the contest.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t hang on for the entire game and the opposition ran out winners. Even though we might have lost on the scoreboard we certainly won in our endeavour as we continually strive to improve and develop over the season.

I’m so proud of the whole team’s effort and would like to quickly mention a couple of players. Gibbo’s attack on the ball all day was amazing. Fletcher H with 4 goals really kept us in the game and Josh C really stepped up and showed plenty of flair. The Tuffley boys worked incredibly hard all day with Josh H and Luke R (our two talls) providing great targets all day. Jem’s return from injury with 2 great goals in round 6 really shows he is such a versatile player. And lastly (but not least) was our 100 gamer in Taj H with a best on ground performance showing not only leadership but providing so may options across the whole ground all day. Well done mate and congratulations on your milestone.

We all look forward to hitting the training track this week and our next home game on Sunday.

Rovers 5.6-36
Mordi Brae 10.13.73
