Under 13 Div 2 vs St Peters (R4)

21 May 2019 by HRJ

“One of most satisfying things about coaching is when the players bring what they’ve learnt at training to the game”.

For a number of weeks now, and especially at our recent training session, we have focused on ball movement, leading, making space, providing options, open up the game, etc… Well I tell you, on the weekend we did just that. Certainly, there is a long way to go and much improvement still ahead of us, but what an amazing, exciting group of players we have. Our first half was the best half of footy we have played for the year. Our players stood up when required and took advantage of the wind in the first and defended like warriors in the second. With new players Charlie W and Gibbo into the side supported by Charlie P, Angus Z and Camdyn all combined on the day to add to our already exciting list. The ever-reliable Jed and Mitch N together with the Tuffley boys were instrumental all day along with Gus Z and Tom playing probably his best game to date.

We led by four points at the half time break which was a pretty true reflection of the game so far as St Peters were also playing some pretty good footy. In recent weeks we have been overrun in the second half but there was something different about the half-time huddle. There was an energy in the group, a belief that anything is possible with hard work and persistence. The second half commenced, and the game went up a notch. The strong marking Josh H was kicking goals from everywhere and went on the kick three for the game. Jacob, Fletcher and Josh C were all playing fast, free-flowing footy along with Jonty and Luke was as strong and as solid as ever. Throw in Taj who has an incredible natural ability to be able to read the play and get the ball and to Jasper who never stops getting the hard ball and set’s up so much of play for us. The final siren finally sounded to the relief of everyone and we walked off the ground with our heads high.

Thanks to those players from the Div 5 team who played a second game with us to boost our numbers and to the players in our side who were top up players on the opposition side during the day. Also thanks Andrew K and Trent H in bringing and adding so much enthusiasm, knowledge and support to the list and to me not only at training but on game day.

We look forward to hitting the training track again and improving on what we’ve already learnt.

Rovers 5.5-35
St Peters 4.6-30

Coach – Chris Gleeson
