A valiant effort by the boys on Sunday against a skilful, fit and structured team in Prahran. Our boys were really competitive heading in the first half, down by a goal at quarter time and two goals at half time. At half time we were 2.2.14 with Angus and Kai kicking goals. Unfortunately, we couldn’t add to our score after half time, and Prahran ended on 14.8.92.
Gus from the other Under 13 team was terrific and best on ground just ahead of Anastasi. Taro was next best ahead of Camdyn and Luca. Poor Christian was continually being bombarded at full-back and stopped many more goals that otherwise would have been kicked.
What has been pleasing however, is that the kids are getting better, it’s a ‘walk before we run’ process with this team, and we can see the team beginning to gel. One thing that is most important is that the kids need to be fitter, so we need our parents to support us in this.
We simply cannot play four quarters of football at the moment with the boys out of tickets after half-time. The ability to run out a game of Aussie Rules is becoming more important than your skill level these days.
So, in an attempt to rectify this, we are going to hold an additional fitness and skills sessions on Tuesday nights at 7pm at Castlefield. This will run for 45 minutes. Friday night training will still be the main training session. Please try and get your boys to both sessions if it doesn’t conflict with other activities.
A team that can run out a full game will be more successful than one that simply cannot!
