Under 13 Div 6 vs Ashwood Waverley Park (R14)

13 August 2019 by HRJ

Arctic cold and wind greeted us to what some could call a football field yesterday. Haven’t seen a ground so wet and muddy in years!

We were up against it with 3 players down and a must win game to make finals, it was just too steep an obstacle.

Furthermore, we had a new recruit in Liam Allison who proved he is more than capable and will kick a few goals for us up front.

All we stressed from the boys was to give it their all, maximum effort we just want to see them trying their best. And boy did they deliver that against the team second on the ladder.

Skill will come, overcoming the fear of tackling, going in for the ball and not waiting for your team mate to do the hard work for you is what we have been focusing on. I was definitely impressed with what I saw. If we counted tackles in our stats, I’m sure they would have been the highest all year. Leading the way was Jasper, Anastasi and Zain who played his best game for us all year.

What makes me really proud as coach of this team, is the endeavour of the boys. Taro played on one leg, his ankle was sprained, Darcy played too with his ankle heavily strapped, just found out Charlie fractured his ribs and Anastasi his wrist!

These boys did not tell me they were in pain, they just want to play and give it their all. And for that I’m proud.

Even though we’re playing the top of the ladder team this week, if we play our best football at our home ground, I’m confident we can get to sing that song on our very last game of the year!!!

Rovers 1.2.8
Ashwood/Waverley Park 6.10.46
Goals: Charlie
Best: Jasper, Orlando, Camdyn, Anastasi, Charlie, Liam, Mitch M & Zain

Go Rovers!!!
