Boys were fantastic Sunday going down by 40 points to Port Melbourne / South Melbourne (PMSM). After being down by 23 points at quarter time, I was extremely proud of the boys and how they fought the game out.
We were actually the better team in the second half which goes against our recent trend of fading, and shows how competitive we can be on a smaller ground.
At quarter time we were down 24 to 1. At half time we were down 31 to 1 but extremely unlucky as Charlie kicked it to Anthony who took a mark in the goal square milliseconds after the half time siren. At 3/4 time we were down 41 to 2, however, the opposition goal umpire awarded PMSM a dubious goal which was the only goal of the quarter.
Both teams kicked a goal in the last quarter, with Jonty’s snap being our only goal for the day. Fantastic to have both Jonty and Mitch from the other under 13 team help us out these past two weeks.
Best on ground was Luca just ahead of Dion. Other notable mentions were Tom, Taro, Camdyn, Nathaniel and Anastasi. Congratulations to Angus on receiving the award for best Rover from the PMSM coach.
The boys can hold their heads up high, and they are improving every week as they start to bond and build their skills and fitness.
There appears to be three strong teams in division 6 and we matched it with one of them after quarter time! Even though we are last on the ladder, the improvement the boys are showing gives me confidence we can play finals.
Next training Tuesday 7pm to 7.45 at Castlefield Reserve.
No training Friday, enjoy the week off as there are no matches Queen’s Birthday weekend.
Go Rovers!!!
