Under 14 Div 1 v Mordi Brae (R9)

6 July 2019 by HRJ

With the Sun-lovers still away, drinking free cocktails and reminding me all about it with photo evidence at every opportunity we went into the Round 9 game against Mordi Brea knowing it might come down to the last 30 seconds of the game. I was very nervous knowing that we had a number of boys that had already played 4 quarters in the earlier game.
Well done to Jordy, Brody, James, Charlie, Lucas and Ben D. Special Big Congrats to Charlie for playing his first D1 game in the Green and Gold.

We kicked against the breeze in the first quarter, Mordi were up and about, linking and running. They kicked
2 goals then Charlie took a nice mark, played on and kicked truly. It allowed me to breath. With Alex out
injured, Big Mason worked hard in the ruck for us. He did well and took a great mark in the last quarter to
repel the opposition.
Kento, Ben and Lachlan were working hard in the middle. Josh, Lucas and Jules worked well across the
back line. An arm wrestle broke out and the ball lived between the 50 metre arcs for most of the second
and third quarters. Mordi went forward twice and scored two goals in the third quarter. We were up against it at the last change of ends.

The boys dug deep. Kyle had plenty, Kai moved into the mid to release Lachlan forward. He and Jordy
worked well together. Jules had a great last term. James working hard across the backline, he and Lucas
R swept up and propelled us forward several times.
Kento put us in front with two minutes thirty left on the clock. We defended manfully, Ben D dived on plenty of contested ball and helped lock the ball in the forward line. Finally, the siren sounded with us in front by 4 pts.
WOW! What a win. Great effort by all the boys.

I don’t want that type of game again. After 9 rounds we find ourselves in 3rd spot on the ladder.

We welcome back after the break: Max, Cecil, Archie, Ted Mc, Alex, Elliott, Oli.
Until then – Enjoy the rest and relaxation everyone.
Except you sun lovers!
