Under 15 Div 1 vs St Peters (R10)

17 July 2019 by HRJ

After a solid 4 quarter performance against Beaumaris, a week off football, 2-3 weeks of school holidays and light numbers on the training track we hit the road for the long trip to Centenary Park to take on St Peters.

We were once again a little light on for players.
Missing:
Bowen
Cowell
Hall
Perkins
Oakley-Kerr (season)
Riedel

But we finally had Max Blackie & Ned Gray available, although Ned had been ill all week and looked like the grim reaper with his hoody on 😊. We also had to call upon some lads to play 2 games.
Zac Ziesing, Will Tuffley and for their first games in div 1 this year Presley McLeish & Sam McCann. Ned & Max had also played in the div 3 game to help out with numbers. So 6 lads had already played a game.

Celebrating his 100th game & also skipper for the day, Toby lead the boys out through the banner, won the toss and said we will kick with the breeze. The first 10 mins was a scrap to say the least. St Peters continued to play the dead side of the ground and tried to keep us and the ball there as much as possible. They pressed back hard into our fwd line and opened up their fwd line. The team soon clicked and realised that they had to start switching the play and move the ball quicker into our fwd line. Risk for reward. 12 – 8 fwd entries. 2.2.14 – 1.1.7

At 1/4 time we spoke about tackle pressure, attacking the ball a bit harder(straight line the ball) slowing down and using the ball better in the backline, quick ball through the mid field & opening the fwd line. Once again we played better football into the wind. The back 6 were strong, kept their feet and provided plenty of rebound run. Well done, again. Our mids didn’t go into the fwd line and allowed the fwd 6 to do their craft. Once the ball was inside our half, we fought hard to keep it there. Well done boys. That’s how we want to play. 11 -7 fwd entries
4.6.30 – 2.3.15.

1/2 time the message was the same as 1/4 time, but we wanted more tackle pressure and more switch of play. The group delivered another good 1/4 of football with their heads over the ball in the slippery, windy conditions. We locked the ball in our fwd half as the oppo flooded numbers back. We layed 19 tackles for the quarter, gave the oppo no time with the ball, and switched the ball around when we had it. 11 – 7 fwd entries. 6.8.44 – 2.6.18

At the final break we asked the group to play 1 on 1 football. Mids to follow the oppo everywhere, to stay strong over the ball and keep the tackles coming. We had started to run out of legs. Unfortunately Ethan couldn’t go back on, Olli off to the hospital, Shahaf, Luke & Sam Parker could hardly run, Max Blackie cramping and the Grim Reaper shaking and shivering, it was a case of just survive the final 10 mins and the team did. Well done team. 8 – 10 fwd entries.
6.10.46 – 3.9.27

A huge thank you again to the boys that played 2 games of cold, wet and windy football. It was great to see your craft and contribution to the team on the day. Well played.

We have a bye this week but please make it to training we still have a lot of work to do.
