Under 18 Girls Div 1 v St Bede’s /Mentone Tigers (R9)

9 July 2019 by HRJ

Lost 49-17

Round 9 Mid-season break time – Who needs a vacation when you can go to Brindisi St, Mentone?!

With dire predictions of few players being available and a couple of calendar errors by some parents (oops that’s me) the under 18 girls showed up in numbers to take on St Bede’s.

Another tough game with windy conditions making it a game playing to one end of the ground. As Jacko and I expressed post match, despite the score our ability to keep them goalless for two quarters indicates how even the teams are. Our challenge was to take advantage of the breeze when we had it.

With tough games we can choose to either bunker down and play defensively or use these games to learn and take on the challenge of growing our game knowledge and skills.

Yesterday was a day for the latter, where being brave, and running and handballing despite the conditions was the option.

Isabel again showed her run and composure around the footy.
Lilly continues to grow as a footballer and had a great last quarter.
Steph makes everything appear to be easier than it is. You cant help but love that torpedo goal.
Meagan showed she can play a great game defensively.
Alex was brave returning to the field after a big knock.
Credit to Eliza for showing up despite being sick and getting out there.
Applause for Tamsyn for showing compassion to her opponent after giving her a heavy bump.
Bella produced another one of her great games.
Kim is developing great sense of how to manage the back line.
Ella took a new role forward and provided a great target for our mids.
Bec worked hard in defense particularly in the 1st quarter.
Annie is proving to be a great ruckwoman.
Katy is one of our bravest players and best tacklers.
Caitlin showed amazing passion and determination and worked hard to contest.
Molly was invaluable on the wing getting herself to the centre bounces to make it hard for the opposition.
Elisha worked hard in the forward line creating opportunities.
Shae was a fantastic captain doing so much hard work in defense.

Thanks to Sophie & Amelia for getting down and supporting their teammates.

Thank you to everyone for getting down to the game at the start of the holidays. This is a tough time of year when the season seems long and motivation can wane.

Special thanks again to Sal for singing the Kangaroos club song as Chris and I licked our wounds after a savage loss for the Pies.

Thanks Sal again for running water and Sam again as goal umpire, not to mention Theo again for being Trainer. Big thanks also to Rowdy and Greg for Ump Escort and Time Keeper.

Jacko, Chris and Pickers for organizing and assisting.

Enjoy the break and I look forward to sharing the rest of the season with you as we strive to enjoy football and be our best in Div 1 footy.
See you back at Training on Thursday the 11th of July.

Coyney
