Under 18 Girls vs Beaumaris (R1)

29 April 2019 by HRJ

A NEW YEAR WITH NEW CHALLENGES AND NEW FACES.

If ever there is a game when you can have a good loss today was the day.

With a new bunch of teammates, a strong opposition and a chance to test ourselves, Hampton Rovers Under 18s weathered a storm of talented opponents for the best part of 3 and half quarters.

We learnt some valuable lessons along the way and witnessed some great defensive and attacking football by our girls.

As ever we weren’t prepared to concede the game. The third quarter was a highlight as we controlled most of the quarter in our half but luck just didn’t go our way on the scoreboard.

The last quarter again saw so much effort to fight back and try to regain the lead. We never stopped fighting it out. You should all be very proud.

Greta, Bella, Kim and Steph all produced fantastic games being aggressive at the contest and taking the game on.

New girls Isobel, Jasmine, Bec, Lilly and Tilly were quickly into the thick of the action.

Best wishes to Sophie Lever who has broken her wrist. She did this early in the game and tried to play on which is credit to her bravery and commitment to the team.

Some lessons to learn that can help make all that effort and energy work better for us:
Don’t wait for the ball, attack it.
Never worry about mistakes if you are attacking the football.
Playing in front works.
Contest every mark no matter how out of possession you are.
Communicate and make sure you help your teammates keep structure around the field.

I’m so glad to be coaching you guys again.

Thank you to
Sal and Pete for getting us organised.
Jacko for his game insight
Pickers for his board management
Flynn Coyne for being stand in runner
All the mums and dads for joining us again
