Under 18 Girls vs East Brighton (R13)

30 July 2018 by HRJ

A tough day at the footy when you let the opposition get the jump on you. The Vampires showed us why they were able to beat the top of the table
Saints with a really strong game of footy against us yesterday. After two really good wins we set ourselves a real challenge by starting slowly in the first half.

Credit to the girls for fighting out the game in the second half holding Vampires goalless in the the third quarter while they had a howling wind to their advantage.

Going into the last quarter the girls continued to show belief in their ability to get the score needed to win and fought out the game to the siren. It probably wasn’t our best day in terms of highlights but I always remain impressed with the numbers who show up and want to play.

Maegan fought so hard in the second half.
Ella rucked and worked hard through the middle of the ground.
Nice work again by Ciara in defence.
Lucy took some great marks and fought hard all day.

We also had injuries to Eva, Kim and Eliza who fought hard.

We should learn from this game what it means to be ready to play from the start of the game. Thank you to Buddy and Caitlin for coming down and supporting the girls. Well done to Holly on winning the Robert Connor Dawes award. The award was to reflect someone who is awesome, committed and determined which Holly has displayed so much of in different ways this season.

Thanks to Dave Lever and Peter Docking for managing the bench and getting the girls reasonable time on the ground. With 15 on and 9 on the bench it was a juggling act.

And don’t forget the more who come to training and learn from Jacko the better we can be.
