Under 18 Girls vs East Brighton Vampires (R7)

28 May 2018 by HRJ

When you do the hard work you get to sing the song.

Just as I thought the girls had developed as much as they could this season they stepped it up again. No matter who your opponents are, as a team, you still need to generate the effort to make sure you remain competitive and beat your opponents.

Despite the distraction of having to volunteer players to play with the opposition our girls remained focused on starting the game well. They did more than start well they took the game on with real intensity. Today was an example of fighting hard and using your skills of clean hands and running hard.

We attacked the footy with vigour, we took great overhead marks, we kicked goals and we just fought hard. The result was we peppered the goals and created an enormous number of opportunities and made it difficult for the opposition. We also fought out every ¼ right to the siren making it difficult for the Vampires to score.

Some standouts were:

Elisha’s ball gathering and long kicks
Jemma’s breakout game taking it on and reading the play (your Dad said you were in for a big one before the game)
Kim’s efforts up and down the ground and her ball collection
Annie’s forward line efforts and multiple possessions. (see Annie we knew you could do it. Keep up the positive thinking)
Oriana’s great kicking and competitiveness at the contest.
Alex’s free wheeling in the forward line and tough contests.
Natasha’s courage in the contests
Buddy for playing on after a huge hit to the head
Ali’s hard running and contests

Special thanks to Eliza, Amelia, Eva and Mia for being so gracious to play for the opposition. And finally thank you to Ciara, Tamsyn and Phoebe who came down to support their teammates despite being injured and sick.

To all the parents it’s great to have your support and feedback on match day.

Richard Coyne (U18G Coach)
