Under 18 Girls vs Oakleigh (R14)

8 August 2018 by HRJ

A draw but what a second half of football against Oakleigh. Well as the whole season has shown each game and week the teams in the competition just get better and better. The kicking is getting longer and more accurate. The hand balling more creative and useful and our ability to fight back regularly is becoming a trade mark.

But nothing beats a great goal on the run from deep in the pocket. Caitlin that was one for the highlights reel. In kicking that goal it also kicked us as a team back into gear after being well and truly outplayed last week and looking still a bit shaky again this week.

The last 1/4 of football was as good as I have seen the girls play in very tough conditions.

To hold our opponents scoreless in the last 1/4 when they had a three to four goal wind and in fact play nearly 15 minutes of the 1/4 in our forward half simply means every single one of our players did their bit.

As I suggested in the change rooms you should put that in your memory bank for whenever you need to remind yourself of how capable your are as a team.

There were also some individual highlights:

Alex’s last quarter particularly her 3 great marks were outstanding.
Oriana’s mark deep in the forward line to get scores level
Of course the Caitlin goal
Polly’s first half and how much she fought for the ball
Tamsyn played tough skilful football like she had before her ankle injury
Ella’s ruck work and run over the ground goes unnoticed but without
her efforts it would be tough for us as team
Eliza is getting better and better each week.

Well done Amelia for bringing the face paint. Great to have it for an At Home With The Rovers afternoon.

Thank you also to Elisha for getting down to the game before heading off to work.

Finals beckons.
Richard
