Under 18 Girls vs Oakleigh (R8)

4 June 2018 by HRJ

Time to turn a negative to a positive.

As the footy season has progressed we have continued to get better at the basics and this week we set out to bring a new layer to our game planning by giving players special jobs. Sometimes its best to keep it simple and as a coach I may have overloaded the team with jobs. The result was a really tough first half as we tried to get it right.

The girls found the smaller ground dished up a very different game and this combined with the new game plans meant it all became very challenging. Thanks to Jacko who delivered clear and positive messages. As a result in the second half we grew in our ability to work to the plan and it slowly worked in our favour.

For much of the second half we locked the ball in our forward half and the end result was we stopped their scoring and scored ourselves.

Well done to:

Eliza in her second game for being so competitive, marking and contesting hard.
Eva for contesting hard and running harder.
Oriana for amazing composure and strong marking and kicking.
Tash for her hard work and fight for the ball.
Annie for braving it and replacing Buddy in the ruck.
Ali well done on 3 goals and taking some great marks
Steph produced another exceptional game.
Kim had clean hands and plenty of run.

Respect to all those who played down back for holding out Oakleigh during the first half. They could so easily have scored more often but were well held by our defence.

A special thank you to Sophie Lever who completely missed a rotation and spent too long on the bench but was very gracious and patient. When she did go on she did exactly what we needed done. My apology.

Thanks also of Tamsyn & Ciara for coming along to support their team mates.

Coach Richard Coyne
