2 reports – Oakleigh and St Kilda – Congratulations girls on two great games of football. I think it’s time for you to believe in your ability as a team and as individuals. Your greatest talent is that you all want to continue to improve and play footy for each other. Remember team improvement trumps individual every time.
As we keep on saying and you keep on showing, you get better and better with every week.
Last week was a slow start but you found the energy and drive to improve throughout the day with tough contested footy.
Today you started full of energy and enthusiasm and despite things not going your way early you stuck with it playing hard accountable footy. The honest efforts were plentiful.
Despite the score being against us early I did not see any of you drop your heads or not believe you could take St Kilda on. You should always remember that.
Some things that stand out:
Alex’s determination to stick with her opponent running seriously hard to stop her getting a possession.
Katy’s efforts in marking contests and the contested ball on the ground.
Collectively the midfield of Amelia, Eliza, Ella and Lucy who started in the middle and showed that we have a so many players who want to fight hard for the footy.
Elisha who had such a huge impact on the flow of the game by using the ball quickly and making space.
Eva who fought hard in defense repeatedly.
Holly I’m very proud of for being at the game today and giving 100%.
Sophie for getting back out there after a big knock.
Ali’s defensive work and powerful tackles. Ohh and congratulations on taking the first bounce for the year I think!!!
Phoebe and Tessa’s return added more to the forward line early.
Shae, Kim and Jemma for their control of the half back line.
Ciara for her mark on the last line of defense.
Again special thanks to the injured players Jaye and Tamsyn for coming down and supporting. That tells me you are a team that care for each other.
Also thank you to Caitlin who was injured but cheered the girls on from the sidelines.
Finally an apology to parents for asking you to oblige the SMJFL rules re being inside the fence during game time. As respectful parents I am sure there is nothing that could possibly go wrong however the penalty for not adhering can be severe.
Ohh one last thing. As we get closer to the end of the year it would be great to see more of you at training. Jacko has so much knowledge of footy and you can learn so much from his experience.
