Castlefield Oval – Sunday 10 June 2018
The Bye
The wind it blows cold on the oval, so green
The field it is empty – not a kid to be seen
The Maroons they are resting – can’t you see why?
It’s because they can’t play, it’s due to the bye
The weekend – it will stretch so far and so long
The kids will be restless, they yearn for the song
The Rovers’ huge anthem – they do want to learn
And to win and to sing it – for that they do yearn
For three days they’re sad and will just lounge around
In green and gold finery, with a ball that’s not round
For the World Cup’s upon us – it’s great they do say
But the Maroons do not care, they just want to play
The great game of footy – it’s the one for us all
It is the best ever – not the round ball
For the Socceroos can play – they put on a show
But the Maroons they are better – that we all know
The parents rejoice – a sleep in is here
Just one Sunday morning – let’s have some more cheer
And wake up at leisure with the sun way up high
And embrace the whole day, including the bye
For three days they jump and do rollick around
On trips they do go, new things to be found
They eat and they dine with all their best friends
And ignore the kids’ sadness – they will make amends
The Maroons will return of that we are sure
And passion, respect – we can always have more
For the grounds will be full one day you will see
And the Maroons will play for you and for me
So the wind it blows on the oval, so green
The field it is empty – it’s because of the Queen
It’s her birthday you know, we aren’t in a huff
But if honesty speaks the Maroons don’t give a stuff!
