Under 8 Violet vs Port Melbourne (R13)

7 August 2019 by LisaB

It was a drizzly Sunday morning, at Boss James oval, for our final home and away game. The parents were pleased that the cold wind was absent.

We were playing the Port Melbourne Colts, a team we lost narrowly to earlier in the year.

The team was excited when the players choice for captain was announced. Congratulations to Liam and Callam.

The first quarter was tight, with the Colts kicking the first Goal and behind. With hard work out of the middle, the ball came to Hunter, who converted, with his first goal for the year. Congratulations to Hunter. We continued our hot attack with another shot at goal by Toby, only narrowly being denied by a touch from the defender. The first quarter finished with Rovers narrowly behind the Colts.

The second and third quarters were again close, with both teams trading goals. Coby came back from an earlier head clashed with Sammy, in the second quarter, to take mark from Toby and kick his second goal for the day. Great work Coby!

It came down to the final quarter. Brody and Jayce did their best with great clearances from the middle and marks in attack. They both finished with goals for the team… two for Jayce and ‘goal of the year’ for Brody. When the final whistle blow… unfortunately, again we were narrowly defeated. We could not fault the efforts of the Rovers, as all Players gave their 100%.

Presentation this week went to Jayce, Toby, Coby and Brody.

All together, a great first season by all the boys!
