As the two teams warmed up, and Liam and Elliot were announced Captains for the Rovers, it was clear to see that this was going to be a Clash of the Titans!
First Quarter:
Playing away from home is never easy, however Rovers stamped their authority on the game from the start applying pressure on the home team. After just two minutes Jules kicked a great goal for the Rovers. Only three minutes later Ollie found some space in front of goal and kicked a beauty. It was a dream start for The Rovers. The rest of the first quarter was a hard fought battle and with some great midfield and defence Rovers held on to a two goal lead.
Second Quarter:
Within the first minute of the second Port showed Rovers that they were not just there to make up the numbers and scored a brilliant goal. A few minutes later they kicked a behind and were well and truly back in the game, as they kept applying pressure on The Rovers. But Hampton dug deep and when Liam found Tom on the right wing, he made his way past a defender and kicked an absolute beauty. However, Port kept applying the pressure and managed to kick one more point before half time. It was clear for all to see that the second half was not going to be easy.
Third Quarter:
The fight back continued immediately into the third as Port kicked another behind after a minute, and then one minute later they scored again. There was now only a few points difference as Port and Hampton continued to battle it out in this hard fought contest. A few minutes before the siren Port applying all the pressure managed to kick another goal, and for the first time in the game took the lead.
Fourth Quarter:
It was all to play for in the fourth as both teams had victory in sight. Port struck the first blow kicking a behind, and then quickly followed up with another goal. But the Rovers did not give up and after applying a lot of pressure in attack they managed to kick three behinds in a row. In the end it was a narrow victory for Port and a great lesson for The Rovers. No doubt this was their toughest test so far this season, but the smiles all came back to their faces as the snakes were passed around after the match!
