Under 9 Maroon (Jones) vs St Kilda City (R10)

29 June 2018 by HRJ

The boys headed to Elwood with only 14 men this weekend to take on St Kilda City. To even up the numbers the coaches agreed for four of the Saints boys to run out each quarter as Honorary Rovers.

It was heartening to witness from the sidelines how enthusiastically our coaching staff & team welcomed these new boys in – What was remarkable though, was the eagerness in which the Honorary Rovers embraced our boys spirit of Passion, Teamwork, Fun & Respect when out on the field. The most noticeable example in my mind, was displayed in the third quarter when one of the Honorary Rovers covered 10m in record speed to smother, what would normally be his own teammates, certain goal at a time when the game was still up for grabs.

For those regular supporters of the Under 9 Maroon (Jones) team, I’m sure it won’t come as a surprise to learn that once again the Rovers dug deep to battle out a win against what continues to be tough competition & that both the Wills, Nate, Angus A, Jacob & Ziggy lead by example with their fearless & relentless attack on the ball.

Special mention goes out to Toby, Jack, Charlie, Ethan & The Zane Train who all stepped up to not only provide the support their team needed around the passages of the play, but by also drove the morale of their mates around the field.

Well done to our coaches Ian & Roger who’s ongoing commitment to our boys development was fittingly recognised by the Saints Coach this week in his congratulation on presenting “An exceptionally well drilled team” in his post-match speech. Have a great break everyone & we’ll see you all back safely in a couple of weeks
