Whilst it wasn’t quite a Mother’s Day massacre at the Rovers Home of Football, we were all rewarded with a great four quarter team performance against the Beaumaris Great Whites. The captains for the day, Strato V and Tommy B led the team brilliantly from the first bounce, helping deliver the Coach’s pre-game ethos of Teamwork, Fun and Memories.
From the midfield in the first quarter, Fraser rallied the troops and was instrumental in getting the ball to the forwards. From the backline, Hunter marked anything in sight and helped prevent two certain goals with his pressure and tackling. Hannah as always was a tackling machine in the back line. Hudson D tackled well and Ethan’s pressure in the midfield ensured we kept the ball out of our defense. Whilst kicking into the wind Owen was unfortunate not to get a goal, as was Jack who took a great mark deep in the forward line.
In the second quarter, Hudson V started to dominate in the midfield and pumped the ball twice into attack. Archer had the missed speccy of the day and Jack snapped brilliantly for goal. From the midfield, Tommy E came into game and started to dominate with his tackling pressure.
In the third quarter, Ernie took a great intercepting mark for goal and Jack was Eddie Betts-like with his dribble kick from 20 metres out to goal. Aloysius helped bring his teammates into play and starred all day with his goal assists.
In the fourth quarter, with a small lead and kicking into the wind, Archer’s late goal meant celebrations all round and Jack showed us why he was awarded the guts and determination award. Whilst injured in the last quarter, Fraser was a bull from the midfield and was a deserved winner for best on ground. Well done to all the coaching staff who should be praised for getting all the kids wanting to play for each other and improving each week.
