Under 9 Orange vs Cheltenham (R2)

7 May 2019 by HRJ

Sam’s pre-game instructions had the team fired up to reverse last week’s narrow loss. Our Captains Ethan and Aloysius started well, winning the toss and kicking into a gentle breeze.

A tough battle in the first quarter, with Rovers locking the play in the forward line but not rewarded on the scoreboard. Great work from Tommy E and Hannah in midfield denied Cheltenham the chance to attack for most of the quarter.

Rovers opened the scoring in the second with a goal to Hudson V after good teamwork from Ethan and Aloysius. Cheltenham opened their account soon after, the tight battle continuing. Rovers exerted pressure across the ground, with Tommy E, Ethan, Fraser and Jack getting plenty of possessions.

Hampton extended the lead in the second half, with Hudson V bagging four for the game, and strong performances across the ground. Tommy E and Hannah dominated midfield, Hunter provided run out of defence and Thomas B was strong in the ruck. The team showed stamina and continued the hard tackling and chasing right to the end.

Practise the song U9 Rovers as we hope to be singing it often!
