Under 9 Red vs St Kilda City (R4)

9 May 2018 by HRJ

Sunday’s match was an early 9am start at Boss James. We were playing on a damp and dewy half ground which didn’t allow the Rovers room to run.

St. Kilda City jumped us at the start, leaving the Hampton kids a little shell-shocked at the competitiveness of their opponents. The contest around the ball was fierce and there wasn’t an easy kick to be had. St. Kilda City drew first blood kicking the first goal.

It wasn’t till halfway through the first quarter, Hampton Rovers scored their first goal then kept peppering the goals for the remainder of the quarter, adding just four points to the score.

The second quarter was another hard-contested battle, with some strong tackling and great passages of play by our boys. Hampton Rovers outscored St. Kilda City.

In the third quarter, St. Kilda City came out of the blocks and looked to have stacked their centre and forward zones with their best players. The level of play was intense as each side desperately fought to gain possession of the ball. Despite the Rovers best efforts, St. Kilda City had the better of us.

This set us up for an exciting final quarter. The Hampton Rovers boys fought hard at every contest, with some skilful marking and courageous and brave play. The pressure was so intense and the score so close, it had the parents lining the boundary line. Both teams fought hard till the final siren. St. Kilda City were by far our toughest opponents yet.

Best Players: Nate, Angus A., Monty, Harry, John, Will J., Zane, Angus H., Ziggy.
Goal Scorers: Ziggy 2, Angus A. 1, Nate 1, Reid 1.
