The day started overcast and chilly but the sun broke through just before the start of the match and by then Sam and Dan had talked to the team about “eyes on the ball” and focusing on their actions, followed by a few warm-up drills.
The first quarter had Joshy contesting a number of balls and showing a keen motivation around the pitch. It was a bit of a slow start for Hampton with Mordi Brae finding the goals first. Some great tackling was put in by Owen and great work by Tommy B and Tommy E. A few attempts by Hampton fell short in goal so the word at quarter time from Sam was to have more players in the box.
The weather was fining up and so was Hampton’s spirits, Huddy V scoring with a great goal early and then followed by Thomas B. Some good kicking was shown by Fraser and with some great marks by Joshy x 2, Tommy and Hunter along with some “great escape” running by Aloysius who also set up a goal.
The day was starting to look a lot better with some more great touches from Joshy, who seemed to be everywhere, prompting questions from the parents about the morning’s breakfast intake…. Thomas B scored a PB second goal for the day after some great work from Hunter and tackling by Hannah in her return match from 5 weeks away. The forwards in general were playing well and any movement to that end of the field more often than not produced a result. Owen scored a great goal with some valuable support play from Fraser. The third quarter in general produced a better team defensive effort and the points from Mordi Brae were drying up fast.
The fourth quarter saw Hampton pretty much camped out in the Mordi Brae supporters end, with points to Archer and a goal to Huddy V to close out the game. Some awesome standout performances today with awards to Joshy, Thomas B, Huddy DE and Owen but the player of the day went to a well-deserved Aloysius. We loved those looping runs to set up the forwards. Great Stuff.
Bring on next weeks team the East Brighton Vampires at Boss James. See you all there.
GO ROVERS!!!
