Under 9 Yellow vs Murrumbeena (R5)

15 May 2018 by HRJ

Round 5 was played at Murrumbeena where the boys were looking to continue the strong early form from recent weeks.

First quarter we kicked against the wind and for the first time this season we kicked the first goal by Josh Bou Diab. A second was added quickly after some nice handballing in the forward line by Angus with Tom Strickland snapping a nice goal. The rest of the quarter was a tight one with the Rovers defenders holding strong and only allowing 1 point to be scored against us.

In the second quarter Rovers scored another 2 goals both from James Jebb, with some good pressure support in the forward line from Harry Haines, Archie Dowling, Joe Whelan and Kobe Knight.

The third quarter was a dour struggle with no scores and both defences holding tight. Hewie maintained control in the middle with support from Henry O’Keefe.

The final quarter we asked the boys to create more space in the forward line and look for targets rather than kicking to packs. We scored another goal via Luke Kollmorgen.

Massimo Champness had a very strong quarter in the middle and Adrian Gonzales continued to find the ball and deliver quality possession to his teammates.

In the end it was a tough game and the boys again defended well only allowing Murrumbeena to score 1 point for the game on a small ground.

That’s 2 goals kicked against us in 3 weeks so we are very pleased with the continual pressure, manning up in defence and tackling.

Thanks to Toby, Ollie and Angus for being the 17th and 18th players today.
