First game for the season at Boss James and the boys were keen to test themselves against St Peters in the last grading game of the season.
The message was again handball to allow players to find space, look for targets rather than kick to packs and man up and pressure the opposition when they have the ball.
St Peters kicked a goal in the first 2 minutes and we thought we were in for a tough game as they had some big and skilled kids.
For the rest of the games the Rovers played fantastic footy continuing the development from previous weeks, to have 23 scoring shots to only 1 more and we kicked our highest score with 14 goals.
Adrian Gonzales got us going with 3 first quarter goals and the ball was being moved forward from the middle by Shae Newey who played his best game of the year. Josh Bou Diab who also had a great game, Lachlan Curtis who continues to get better every week and Henry O’Keefe who also had his best game of the season. 5 first quarter goals after conceding the first and St Peters were in shock at quarter time.
Second quarter followed the first with Rovers kicking 4 goals to 1. Josh B kicked 2 and Shae 1. Harry Haines did some heavy work in the middle to allow the mids to continually get the ball forward. Kobe Knight had a break out quarter getting plenty of the ball and tackling hard.
St Peters didn’t score in the second half and the tackling and contested pressure was the best we have seen.
The third quarter saw Luke Kollmorgen dominate in the forward line kicking 2 goals. Ollie Hall who was filling in from under 8s also kicked a nice goal.
The last quarter we maintained control of the game and kicked 2 more goals with Zac Saunders filling in from under 8s kicking 1 and Ben Jebb the other.
Another great game and the most pleasing aspect was the evenness of the performance with different boys this week having best games of the season.
Lots to look forward to this season and the speed of development over 4 rounds has exceeded the coaches expectations.
Thanks to Ollie and Zac for helping from under 8s.
