Under 11 Div 1 vs Bentleigh (R12)

25 July 2017 by HRJ

They say when things get hard, it makes you stronger. Sunday was one such game. It was the third time we have come up against Bentleigh FC, and is clear why they are second on the ladder in Div 1.

The highlight was seeing Mitch Nolan come down to watch us with plaster up to his hip after breaking leg badly last week. We even had a banner for the boys to run through with WE’RE DOING IT FOR MITCH written on it.

We were determined to start off strong at the first bounce, and present a message to Bentleigh that we meant business. While the boys did present a determined effort throughout the game, our competition were just too strong. Bentleigh displayed four quarters of consistent football and considerable forward pressure that we found hard to stop.

While we did put our heads over the ball, applied hard tackles and considerable pressure throughout the game, it’s fair to say, we did not worry our opponents with much scoreboard penetration.

However, there is a positive side to everything. One highlight was the incredible best on ground performance by Jay Todd. While usually very dangerous across half forward, Jay played both centre half back and full back, and played a remarkable game as a one man defensive wall.

Also you always learn a great deal when facing a strong opponent. We will take a lot from this game, work hard at getting back to our best, and face our next game with our trademark Rovers passion, courage and determination. Bring it on!
