Under 14 Div 3 vs Highett (R7)

6 June 2017 by HRJ

Looking back on Sunday’s game, I think everyone will agree with me, there was not a lot in it.

Running out on the ground one player short, both the boys & I looked towards Highett and thought they might have had enough for two teams!

The boys were asked to dig in and play to 105% to cover the missing player. To their credit at the first quarter break we were incredibly unlucky not to be in front.

A couple of missed opportunities at our end and some accurate kicking down theirs in the second quarter gave them a break going into half time.

Mitch Lever who was on an adrenalin high from running through the banner for his 50th game showed class, grit and determination dominating possession in the first term.

Tom Pep led the charge from the back stepping up to fill the hole left by Gus Perkins and attacked the footy time and time again before backing his speed to out run the opposition.

Tim Cowie was also brilliant in the first term leading strongly at the football, taking a number of key marks and throwing his body around.

Unfortunately our 3rd quarter effort let us down, looking at the score quarter to quarter taking out the middle half (Q2/Q3) we won by a goal!

What this shows is that when asked to lift pre-game and at 3 quarter time you did. When praised for your effort, we relaxed and let our opposition take control of the game.

In the older age bracket, having a bench is becoming more and more crucial. It is hard to find extra players the morning of a game, so if for any reason you feel you might not be able to play on Sunday – let Lee or I know on Thursday/Friday or even Saturday. This will allow us time to try and find the extra players required to give us a bench.

Thank you to Oscar Brown who in only his second game with us this year, again showed he hasn’t lost his class.

Well done to Sam Chaplin who was important down back playing an outstanding game.

Well done to Ozzy & Garbs who when called upon to fire up and get involved, did so perfectly.

And lastly to Harry Officer, Hugo Lynch & Charlie Wilson who battled hard all day and led from the front.

Enjoy the week & weekend off and look forward to seeing you next week!

Go Rovers!
