Before I kick off with my report, I would like to thank Angus, Kai and Nate who on a day our team were 7 players short, played an amazing team game and impressed all parents and coaches on the day – wish you boys the best for the rest of the season.
As mentioned already, this round we had 7 boys out – not from suspension but for their First Communion – well done boys and we look forward to having you back next week.
Harvey and William led the team out as our captains and both had great games.
The game began with our boys putting a huge amount of pressure on the oppositions defence with Ethan and Hugo pumping the ball out of the centre whenever they had a chance, giving Angus and Kai plenty of opportunities up forward and showing plenty skills and team work amongst the forward zone. Unfortunately for the next couple of quarters our defence and the opposition forwards did not get much action – the ball never made it past the centre square.
Throughout the match, we saw some great skills and willingness by all the players – Sunny used his height well when rucking, took a great mark and laid a massive tackle down the wing, William remembered to only take 1 bounce and run his full measure, Bradley, Seb and Hugo gave out great hand passes to either running players or to someone in a better position, our tackling and pressure around the ball was another major highlight with Sonny, Nate and Harvey were a standout – great tackling without giving away free kicks.
When people go the MCG or the Gabba or any local footy ground, one thing they love to watch is a player taking on the opposition with their running skills or pace. The likes of Dangerfield, Ablett and Johannisen do it week in and week out and it’s great to watch. Our matches are no different – week in week out we see Jack, Mason, Ethan and Patrick (Wilson not Dangerfield) run out of defence or from the centre and look for players in better positions or in goal kicking distance and don’t our boys know it – their eyes all light up when they see a rover’s jumper with ball in their hands kicking it straight down their throat. Well done boys keep up the great work.
Every week we see major improvements from one of our players, whether is Sunny and his marking, William and his one bounce or Harvey with his tackling. This week I would like to recognise Daniel. He has been growing in confidence over the last two weeks and this week he showed guts and determination by chasing the ball and tackling when needed and with all his hard work he received a free kick to go with it – well done mate keep up the great work and keep enjoying your footy.
Make sure you make training this week, as I will distribute the weekend awards and choose this week’s captains.
Al.
