Round 6 was played at Oakleigh and with 16 on each team and a good size ground, we were looking forward to some space for the boys to test their skills on.
Captains Lachlan Curtis and Joe Whelan won the toss and kicked with the wind in the first quarter. The ball was in the Rovers front half for all of the first quarter and the boys took advantage of some nice centre work from Josh Bou Diab, Adrian Gonzales, Luke Kollmorgen and Lincoln. 4 goals kicked with the highlight being first goals for the season to Archie Dowling and Massimo Champness.
Second quarter was more challenging with Oakleigh kicking 2 goals with the wind and Rovers one with James Di Nicola kicking his first goal for the season also.
At half time we challenged the boys to tighten up more across the ground when defending and they responded not allowing Oakleigh another goal for the second half. In the third Rovers again controlled the ball in the front half of the ground with James Jebb kicking 2, Joe Whelan 1 and Harry Haines 1.
The last term the boys worked really hard to defend against the wind are were able to score one goal from a nice assist by Archie Dowling to Lachlan Curtis.
That’s 5 goals kicked against us in 4 weeks so we continue to be very pleased with the continual pressure, manning up in defence and tackling. This was the most even team effort from the boys and great to see the team work and support for each other in looking to assist the boys that had not score goals kick one.
Thanks to Lincoln for playing today and he led from the front all day.
